About the Media Center

 Mission Statement

The mission of the Manassas High School Library is to create an effective, integrated library media program in an environment that is inviting and that fosters an appreciation of literature, as well as, promotes information literacy through collaboration, planning, implementation, and assessment of learning in a manner that equitable to all students and staff.

 

Goals and Objectives

Develop an effective, integrated library media program

  • Increase the number of current books per student each year through the expeditious submission of book orders and the writing of grants, as well as, weeding dated materials in order to met ALA standards
  • Meet the needs of all library stakeholders by ensuring that all computers are operational, Internet accessible, and loaded with a variety of software, as well as, capable of upgrading to accommodate the latest innovative technology                         

Create an inviting library media center that fosters and appreciation of literature

  • Create teen spaces in the library with furniture that is reader friendly, ergonomically sound and accessible to all patrons
  • Promote a variety of activities designed to motivate students to read such as MCS Reads, Reader’s Theater, and Poetry Slams

Integrate information literacy through collaboration, planning, implementation, and assessment of learning in a manner that equitable to all students and staff

  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop, plan, and implement lessons designed to promote information literacy, as well as, integrate student performance indicators to increase student achievement
  • Design professional development that informs staff of the latest library and technological resources available in order to create lessons designed to promote information literacy
  • Develop a professional collection for staff members to increase their professional knowledge

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Policies and Procedures

v    Schedule visits one week in advance. Confirmed visits should be written on the large calendar at the circulation desk.

v    Complete Teacher/ Librarian Collaborative Planning Worksheet at least three days prior to visit.

v    Send students to the library with a library pass and instructions.

v    Report computer and technological problems experienced in the library to Ms. Taylor immediately.

v    Adhere to the e-mail and Internet Acceptable Use Agreement and obey copyright laws. 

v    Teachers are allowed to check out a maximum of 100 books for a period of 30 days. Students may check out a maximum of 5 books for 14 days
